Blockley was a centre for silk milling in the 19th century. Today it is a picturesque Cotswold village with a medieval church, 2 pubs and the fabulous new Village Shop/ Post Office/ Cafe which has WiFi and is famous for its excellent bacon baguettes and hot chocolate!
Skylark Cottage is within easy reach of Moreton-in-Marsh (which has train links to London), Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Cheltenham (well known for its Races and Festivals), Stratford-on-Avon, Oxford and National Trust properties (Hidcote Manor, Snowshill Manor and Chastleton House). Longborough Opera is popular in the summer. Other Cotswold villages to visit are Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway and The Slaughters with their shops, traditional pubs and restaurants. Also Sudeley Castle, Blenheim Palace, Batsford Arboretum, Sezincote House, Warwick Castle and many more.
There are lots of wonderful places to eat in and around Blockley. Here are a few for you to try. We would be grateful if you could mention any you find and enjoy in the Visitor’s Book.
The Western Arms in Blockley has been recommended for pub food and a good atmosphere, The Crown in Blockley is on the High Street and a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. Lower Brook House, also in Blockley is worth booking for a special meal.
If you like walking The Bakers Arms is in Broad Campden (turn right out of the cottage) and serves good traditional pub food and beer. A little further on in the same direction is The Churchill Arms in Paxford, highly recommended by us and by Michael Winner!
About 2 miles away in the other direction in Bourton-on-the-Hill, The Horse and Groom is always recommended by our guests. It also has a garden for sunny lunches.
